P2P for you and me

Abstract

Peer-to-peer (P2P) technology is tainted by various prejudices that can make it look arcane and even scary. However, P2P actually comes with some very useful properties that make it superior to centralized systems in various not-so-arcane situations. And it’s not as hard to use as you might think. To illustrate this, Julian live-codes a P2P file-sharing desktop application from scratch in only 25 minutes, using nothing but a few selected public Node.js modules. The finished application is even compatible with Dat, the open source, decentralized tool for distributing data sets of all sizes.
